In a bid to foster community health and wellness, Carrefour, operated exclusively by Majid Al Futtaim in Uganda, has pledged a UGX 7 million sponsorship towards the upcoming Kyambogo Ultra Challenge Run. Scheduled for May 4, 2024, at the Kyambogo University Cricket Oval, this annual event aims to promote fitness and active lifestyles among Ugandans.

The Kyambogo Ultra Challenge Run, now in its 14th year, stands as Uganda’s sole ultra-challenge marathon. It attracts participants from diverse running clubs in Kampala and beyond, serving as a fitness benchmark for those aspiring to compete in continental marathons.

Christophe Orcet, Regional Director – East Africa at Majid Al Futtaim Retail, emphasized the company’s dedication to community impact through health initiatives. “The sponsorship of the Kyambogo Ultra Challenge Run reflects our commitment to promoting health and well-being, using sport as a catalyst for unity,” stated Orcet.

Julius Nkuraija, CEO of Kyambogo Ultra Challenge Run, expressed gratitude for Carrefour’s partnership. “We are thrilled to welcome Carrefour as a sponsor for our 14th edition. Their support is instrumental in ensuring the success of this event and advancing health and fitness awareness across Uganda,” said Nkuraija.

Moreover, Nkuraija highlighted future aspirations for the run, indicating a forthcoming focus on environmental conservation as the event gains traction and expands.

Carrefour’s involvement extends beyond sponsorship. Their community engagement initiatives, such as the “Round Up Your Bill” campaign launched in 2021, have raised over UGX 290 million to support vulnerable groups in neighboring communities. Beneficiaries of this initiative include Peculiar Childcare Support, Kireka Home for Disabled Children, Mulago School for The Deaf, Kiswa Primary School, Ntinda School for the Deaf, and The Noah’s Ark Village.

The Kyambogo Ultra Challenge Run represents a significant stride towards promoting health, fitness, and community involvement in Uganda, with Carrefour at the forefront of supporting these initiatives.
